MANAGER

Salmon Hills Welcomes

Thomas R. Griffith

Greetings everyone!

I have worked at Salmon Hills since Dec. 2005 and was given the position as manager the following summer. I work part time as a sales person for L.L. Bean outdoor retail store in Syracuse.  I have always been passionate about the outdoors and find myself extremely happy to be working in the outdoor recreation field.  It is not a career to get rich from, but the satisfaction of helping others get into the wilderness to have a great experience makes it well worth it.  A mentor of mine has always been fond of saying "it's a life style and not a job".  No truer words have been said:  "Those who choose to work in this field do it because they love the outdoors and want to share their love for it".

At a young age I started exploring the forest and rivers.  I went to college for advertising and commercial art and worked as a graphic artist for many years.  Then I served 3 1/2 years in the Army as an infantryman.  My NY state guides license was obtained in 1998 for white water rafting, camping and hiking.  I continue to work weekends on the Black River as a raft guide, and lead trips for both white and flat water kayaking and canoeing.  Over the last few years I have fine tuned the skills for outdoor cooking and progressive dinners.  I am also an artist and continue to pursue that passion, now as a fine artist.

I grew up in the small town of Silver Springs, NY, near Letchworth State Park ("The Grand Canyon of the East").  I spent a lot of my childhood hiking, XC skiing, rafting and biking either at Letchworth State Park or on my grand parents' 60 acres property.

I truly want everyone who comes to Salmon Hills to have the best experience, and I welcome any suggestions or help in making that happen.  We may not be able to follow every suggestion due to cost and time, but each suggestion goes a long way

towards guiding us in the right direction of customer satisfaction and service customizing.  I know that Hans, Kim and Roy all want this as much as I do, and with the support of the whole community of skiers and outdoor enthusiast Salmon Hills is going to provide better and better service, programs, and facilities every year.
